The carpets of Döşemealtı are one of the most unusual locations near Antalya. Local masters lay handmade rugs straight out in the field and leave them under the sun: it burns the rich colour down to soft pastel tones and «ages» the rug.
The rugs are spread across several hectares — a huge field of colour and pattern. The contrast of bright rugs against the greenery gives a backdrop you can’t shoot anywhere else.

What to know about a shoot on the carpets
A field of sun-bleached rugs
This is a working field in the Döşemealtı district north of Antalya. The rugs are dried and «aged» in the sun by an old method — the sun burns out the natural dyes and the rug takes on noble pastel shades.
Free and worry-free
A big plus: the carpet masters charge nothing for a shoot. You can walk and even lie on the rugs — they are trodden on purpose to age them, so there’s no need to worry about creasing or dirtying the backdrop. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed.
Season and dates
The season runs from July to September, on dry days without rain — that’s when the field is laid out under the sun. It’s best to check the exact date, and whether the rugs are out right now, in advance — the field is alive and changes.
Looks and light
We build the looks to tone with the rugs or in contrast: plain dresses and natural fabrics read beautifully against the busy pattern. The light is softest in the morning and closer to sunset — the midday sun is harsh, and the golden hour is better for a portrait.
